Your online socialling source for what’s new, free and cool - Ya, It’s kind of important.
Having trouble accessing Facebook from work or school? Or for that matter many of the other top social networking sites like MySpace, Bebo or Hi-5. Well it’s a problem for millions of people now that businesses and schools are blocking access to so many social networking sites. So we’ll show you how easy it is to get past blocking restrictions.
Caution: Just because you will be able to access Facebook, MySpace or some other social network, does not mean your network administrator can’t find out about it.
You will be able to access these sites, but your computer will still have all the pages and links you visit cached. Not to mention, some networks may monitor the web pages their users visit. So if these things are a concern, this may not be a solution for you.
How to unblock sites
To unblock websites you need to use a web proxy. This is a server that will fetch the web page for you so that your network will think you are visiting the proxy server website and not the restricted site. It’s pretty simple really.
Once you’re on the proxy, you simply type the website you are seeking into the access field. It’s as easy as typing a website into a search engine. Now you are off and running and should be able to access your Facebook or Myspace or for that matter any other restricted site.
Baggage that comes with proxy sites
Unblocking websites is generally free, so you will have to put up with a few things that you don’t ordinarily have to when you log in to Facebook. The baggage we’re talking about is Advertising! Lots and lots of ads will probably be cluttering up the front page of the web proxy. In addition to that, your social network site may be served up to you in a window that contains more advertising. This is the price you pay to unblock Facebook.
All these web proxies have to cover the cost of all the bandwidth they use and advertising is pretty much the only way they can do it. So when using a proxy this is pretty much a necessary evil and there isn’t much you can do about unless you subscribe to a paid proxy. We don’t recommend paying for proxies for unblocking purposes because they can be blocked just as easily by a network. Then you’ll be stuck paying for a service you can’t use.
Short lives and slow service
Some of the other problems associated with proxies is that many of them are run on shared servers and shoestring budgets. Combine that with the fact that many of them become very popular very fast and suddenly the poor guy running the unblocking site has his server overwhelmed with traffic and it slows to a crawl.
Another thing that happens is that the proxy owner can no longer afford to run the proxy site and has to pull the plug. This is fairly common in the world of unblock sites, but there are new ones popping up all the time. So you’ll have to search them out.
When searching for unblock sites, here are a few terms you can google instead of just unblock site.
proxy
anonymous proxy
web proxy
proxy server

Although Facebook has been the media darling for the past year for social networks, it is still dwarfed by its much bigger rival, MySpace. One of the reasons that MySpace reigns supreme is that it has focused on music as well as connecting with people virtually. If you hear a song in a television commercial these days and then do an internet search, you will more than likely find the musician with a MySpace page. Even if the musician does have a Facebook page, it doesn’t have the music influence that MySpace does.
Anyone who watches TV will be familiar with two commercials because of the music, and after searching you’ll find that these artists have MySpace pages and you’ll be able to hear the songs entirely that have been stuck in your head. The first commercial is for the Ford Edge where a girl is sitting in the back seat staring up out of the skyview window and her friends call her on the phone to ask if she wants someting, and you’ll hear part of a song called “The Funeral” by Band of Horses. The other commercial that has been playing a little longer is for the iPod Nano with people dancing in a carefully choreographed scene on different colored iPods, and is playing the video for the song “1234″ by Feist, whom you’ll also find on MySpace by doing a quick internet search. If music is a priority in your life, then you probably use MySpace for finding and listening to music even if you prefer Facebook for connecting with your friends.
